Brett Dennen will release his next studio album, Loverboy, on April 12. The album will explore a less folk-oriented sound and feature contributions from a range of Dennen’s musical friends. Though Dennen is best known as a singer/songwriter, he grew up in the jamband scene and has collaborated with the likes of ALO, Mike Gordon and Ron Johnson (Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe), among others.

A note from Dennen reads,

I was on the road supporting HOPE FOR THE HOPELESS I had a realization; I don’t want to becategorized as a folk singer-songwriter anymore. I want to play music that makes people dance. I wantto inspire people to get on their feet singing. In July of 2010 a group of dear friends and I spent a couple weeks in Burbank, CA tracking what wouldbecome LOVERBOY. I approached this record with a very clear vision, and therefore didn’t feel theneed to work with a producer. In the past few years I’ve grown a lot as a musician and wanted tosurround myself with friends and great artists who could help me reach my vision for the album. It was recorded mostly live, single takes all the way through with everyone playing and singing together withvery few overdubs. The songs cover a lot of ground musically, but the common thread is that everything makes you feel good, even the sad songs. It ‘s honest and earnest. It had to be.Afterwards I took a few of the songs to Martin Terefe in London to give them some extra love andeventually to Michael Brauer to mix at New York’s infamous Electric Lady Studios.LOVERBOY is my strongest and most sincere album to-date. Its songs are a celebration of life whosemessages I think will resonate with an audience beyond my current fan base.So here it is, LOVERBOY. I hope you enjoy
