The latest installment of the Grateful Dead Road Trips series looks back to April 1, 1988. Road Trips (Vol. 4, No. 2) presents the band’s complete performance from that evening at the Brendan Byrne Arena in East Rutherford, NJ (the venue now known as the Izod Center). The show begins with two songs that were openers during this era, as “Mississippi Half-Step” segues into “Jack Straw.” There’s also the group’s second/final take on Bob Dylan’s “Ballad of a Thin Man,” the second take on “To Lay Me Down” in five years and even some “Little Bunny Foo Foo” tuning at the outset. In addition, the package includes the entire second set from the previous night, which offers a stellar “Scarlet” > “Fire” as well as some first set highlights from March 31 (“When I Paint My Masterpiece” and “Let It Grow”).
