Warren Haynes Joins Gregg Allman at Low Country Blues Release Event

Gregg Allman celebrated the release of Low Country Blues, his first solo album in over 13 years, last night at New York’s intimate Bowery Ballroom. The Allman Brothers Band leader drew heavily from Low Country Blues with the help of his solo backing band: vocalist/percussionist Floyd Miles, keyboardist Bruce Katz, saxophonist Jay Collins, drummer Steve Potts, bassist Jerry Jemmott and guitarist Scott Sharrard. Partway through his set, Allman also brought out Warren Haynes to play guitar on the one original song on Low Country Blues, the Allman/Haynes collaboration “Just Another Rider.” Haynes—who wore a blazer onstage—remained for a take on “Dreams.” In addition, Allman performed several classics from the Allman Brothers Band repertoire, including “Melissa,” “Whipping Post” and “Statesboro Blues.” He also mixed in some older solo cuts like “I’m No Angel” and “Before Bullets Fly.” Allman and his group will perform in Jim Thorpe, PA on January 22.

Gregg has the most soulful voice and heartfelt lyrics of any singer/songwriter I know of. He has a great feel for musicians and has created yet another dynamite Gregg Allman Band. It pleases me to see Warren Haynes join in for the release. The love lives on. Thank you, Gregg.

Saw him on a CBS Sunday morning show this last weekend. I wasn’t aware that he’d recently undergone a successful liver transplant. I’m so glad for him ! Losing Gregg would be devastating. He played Tulsa’s famous Cain’s ballroom a few years back and was awesome ! He signed autographs for a long time afterward. He sang every song as if it was the first time. He is so very soulful and is just all around a true pro. Good luck, Gregg on your new album which I will be purchasing right away !

I caught the show at the Bowery Tuesday. The set was one of the best I’ve heard Gregg do with his solo band over the years and I’ve seen many versions of Gregg and Friends. Gregg sounded great, the band was really enjoying themselves and Warren joining in made in even better. The Beacon shows will be here before we know it!
