Forty years ago Eric Clapton, Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle and Jim Gordon dubbed themselves Derek and the Dominos and released a blues-rock album, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. To honor the famed-album, which was entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2000, a deluxe edition will be released March 29.

The centerpiece of the deluxe edition will be the original double-disc album in both digital and vinyl formats. In addition to the title track, “Layla” and other original songs, the album also includes various blues covers like “Little Wing” and “Have You Ever Loved A Woman” as well as Duane Allman playing guitar on several tracks.

The set will also feature all four audio performances from Derek and the Dominos’ television appearances on The Johnny Cash Show, two tracks produced by Phil Spector in early summer 1970 and an acoustic duet performed by Clapton and Allman. It also features six performances from what was to be the group’s second album, including “Got To Get Better In A Little While,” the band’s last recording.

A super deluxe edition will be released and include everything on the deluxe edition plus a remastered and expanded 2-CD set of the band in concert at Fillmore East and an audio DVD featuring DTS 5.1 and Dolby Surround 5.1 versions of Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs.

The super deluxe version will also have copies of Derek and the Dominos concert tickets and promotion items, pop-up 3-D artwork and Layla art print based on the oil painting that was the album cover and a hardcover book with rare photographs and essays written from interviews with the band, members of the Allman Brothers, engineers and producers.

The deluxe edition is only the highlight of a series of separate releases that will pay tribute to the album, including a single-disc edition of the remastered Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs; a 2-LP remastered vinyl edition Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs; a 2-CD edition of Derek and the Dominos: In Concert; and downloadable editions of all configurations on iTunes.
