Last night Trey Anastasio opened his current tour at the State Theatre in Portland, ME. The first set saw him perform on an acoustic guitar before he moved to an electric for set two. Starting out with “Theme From The Bottom,” he delivered solo versions of such Phish songs as “Cavern,” “NICU,” “My Friend My Friend,” “Gumbo,” “Suzy Greenberg” and “Kill Devil Falls” before bringing out Jen Hartswick and Natalie Cressman for “Water in the Sky.” Then Ray Paczkowski joined in during “Spin,” while the entire group then emerged for “Liquid Time” and a set-closing cover of OutKast’s “Hey Ya!” (stop by the Relix.com video blog for a look at “Hey Ya!”). The second set opened with such familiar selections as “Cayman Review,” “Mozambique” and “Gotta Jibboo” and also included the first take on “Acting the Devil” since 2002. Anastasio later dug deep during the encore via “In The Wee Wee Hours,” which also hadn’t been performed since the fall of 2002.

Tonight it’s on to the Palace Theatre in Albany.
