Brooklyn, NY’s Cameo Gallery hosted the first in a series of Noncerts last night. Each installment in the highly-collaborative series will feature different songwriters performing with a house band comprised of veteran session musicians. Last night’s show featured short sets by Gene Ween, The Walkmen’s Hamilton Leithauser, David Dondero and event organizer Dave Godowsky. The musicians drew from a house band that included Pico Alt (violin), CJ Camerieri (horns, wurlitzer), Dave Godowsky (guitar, piano), Jesse Harris (guitar, banjo), Marika Hughes (cello), Ben Lester (drums), Eivind Opsvik (bass), Jenny Scheinman (violin), Doug Wieselman (clarinet, sax, guitar) and Lev “Ljova” Zhurbin (viola).

Gene Ween closed the night with a set that boasted numerous Ween songs as well as a cover of Fiddler on the Roof‘s “If I Were a Rich Man” that featured the house group’s string section. In addition to the show’s house band, Ween’s set featured accompaniment from longtime Ween bassist Dave Dreiwitz

All proceeds from the event benefited music funding at public schools in Brooklyn. Ween and Dreiwitz will perform at Harrisburg, PA’s Abbey Bar on February 26.
