TAB covers “Magilla” last year

Trey Anastasio & TAB performed at Boston’s House of Blues last night on their Acoustic & Electric Winter Tour. Anastasio continued to shuffle his acoustic set and last night’s performance featured solo takes on Phish’s “Sample In A Jar,” “Punch You In The Eye,” “Strange Design,” “AC/DC Bag,” “It’s Ice,” “Bathtub Gin,” “Carini,” “Dog Faced Boy,” “Wilson,” “Chalkdust Torture” and “Backwards Down The Number Line” as well as The Rolling Stones’ “Shine a Light” (a song Phish has played regularly since covering Exile on Main Street on October 31, 2009). TAB members Russ Remington and Tony Markellis emerged near the end of the set for a take on “Lawn Boy” which Anastasio dedicated to Janis Joplin, Kris Kristofferson and Page McConnell (who sings the song in Phish, though it was written by Anastasio and Tom Marshall). The rest of the group then took the stage for full band takes on Anastasio’s “Let Me Lie” and Outkast’s “Hey Ya!”

The Trey Anastasio Band’s electric set featured a mix of live staples, covers and songs that have recently moved into the Phish canon. The group performed “Burn That Bridge”—a TAB original Phish debuted on December 31, 2010—as well as classic TAB cuts “First Tube” and “Gotta Jiboo.” Anastasio also reworked “Ocelot”—a song he originally performed with Phish—for his solo group. The show came to a close with stabs at McConnell’s “Magilla” and Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog.”

Trey Anastasio & TAB will perform at New York’s Terminal 5 tomorrow.
