Last night Prince kicked off a three night stand at the Oracle Arena in Oakland. Larry Graham opened the night and the set from Sly and the Family Stone bassist offered some familiar material including “Everyday People” and “I Want to Take You Higher.” Prince later took the stage and shared his deep respect and affection for Graham before charging into his own set. In addition to his own songs such as “Raspberry Beret,” “Kiss” and “If I Was Your Girlfriend,” he also covered Rihanna’s “Rude Boy.” The night took a surprising turn when local hero Carlos Santana stepped out and the two shared guitar solos on “Soul Sacrifice.” The night also included notable versions of “Purple Rain” and Sheila E.’s “A Love Bizarre” (as Sheila Escovedo is a part of Prince’s current nine piece).
