The First Sit-Ins of ABB Beacon Run 2011

On Thursday night the Allman Brothers Band opened their latest Beacon Theatre run. The first show saw the band take the stage without any additional perfomers. However, last night the first of many expected guest musicians joined the group. Saxophonist Randall Bramlett delivered the initial sit-in, as he took the stage with the ABB towards the close of the first set for “Desdemona” (and later returned during set two for “The Same Thing”). Gregg Allman’s son Devon followed Bramblett during “Key to the Highway” and two songs later guitarist Jimmy Vivino came out for “Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad.” Also of note was the group’s version of Jimi Hendrix’s “Manic Depression” which Oteil Burbridge sang during a segue out of “Maydell” during the second set.

The Beacon run continues tonight in NYC.

Here is the setlist as it appear in our Box Scores section.

Wow! Oteil singing and Derek playing a Les Paul. Definitely a treat. Thank you mysterious videographer!

Any idea what happened to David Hildago on Friday? The soundboard guy’s setlist showed 2 songs with him during set two.

They’ve played Manic Depression before, although definitely a rarity.
