Michael Franti & Spearhead to Replace Lenny Kravitz at Jazz Aspen Snowmass

Michael Franti & Spearhead will replace Lenny Kravitz on the bill for Jazz Aspen Snowmass’ Labor Day festival. This will be Franti’s only 2011 Colorado appearance. Franti will perform before the Zac Brown Band on Sunday, September 4. As previously reported, the annual festival will return to Snowmass, CO from September 2-4. Steely Dan, Girl Talk, Thievery Corporation, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Fitz & the Tantrums and the Ryan Bingham and the Dead Horses are also slated to perform.

Representatives for Kravitz explained that the release of the guitarist’s new record, previously scheduled for early spring 2011, had been pushed back to fall 2011, and thus his scheduled summer 2011 tour had been postponed. Festival organizers are looking to potentially reschedule the performance for 2012.

I love Lenny’s music !!! Been a huge fan for years…..but I just had two concerts canceled for no good reason.I waited in line to get front row seats and because of that I ended up with bad seats for other artist concerts. Last tour I understood having two concerts canceled because of throat problems….but canceling shows because his album isn’t released…THATS MESSED UP !!! Think about your fans next time !!

Steely Dan in concert is not to be missed; Walter Becker and Donald Fagen always put together a dynamite backup band to help them perform their huge catalog of great tracks. Their 1976 hit “Kid Charlemagne” was loosely inspired by LSD high priest and chemist Owsley Stanley. On my Rockaeology blog at http://bit.ly/ehHOso are the lyrics and their meanings: When we hear, “You’d go to LA on a dare and you’d go it alone,” Becker and Fagen reference a trip Owsley made as described in Ken Kesey’s “The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test”: the move to Los Angeles from Berkeley to mass produce LSD in 1965.
