David Grisman Joined By Punch Brothers

On Saturday night, David Grisman brought his current group to New York City’s City Winery. The David Grisman Sextet, which sees the mandolin player joined by Mike Barnett on fiddle, Jim Kerwin on bass, drummer George Marsh, flautist Matt Eackle and guitar player Grant Gordy performed two sets at the Winery. At the close of the performance, The Punch Brothers’ Noam Pikelny (banjo) and Gabe Witcher (fiddle) joined in, along with Grisman’s “homegrown bass player,” his son Samson.

The next confirmed date for Grisman’s group is on June 17 in Richmond, VA.

Great song, great people, really crappy sound. I can hear maybe 3 of 8 people playing. You’d have to be there or get a better engineer. I know the sound at the gig was probably pro, but this sound bite was tonally dysfunctional.

They did the same thing when Hot Rize was in NYC last November. It was neat.
