Ben Sollee and Jim James in 2010

My Morning Jacket played its first public show of 2011 last night at Lexington, KY’s University of Kentucky Memorial Hall. Classical cellist Ben Sollee opened the show and sat in with MMJ on some of the night’s more gentle moments: “Golden,” “Wonderful (The Way I Feel)” and “Smokin’ from Shootin.” Besides “Wonderful (The Way I Feel)” and the recent live staple “Circuital,” the MMJ did not play any songs from its forthcoming studio album Circuital.

MMJ frontman Jim James produced Sollee’s album with Daniel Martin Moore, Dear Companion. The three musicians also hit the road in 2010 as part of the Appalachian Voices tour. Sollee also appears on Circuital, which was recorded in the group’s hometown of Louisville, KY. My Morning Jacket will appear on the June cover of Relix.
