Cyril Neville with Galactic last year

Galactic will release The Other Side of Midnight: Live in New Orleans tomorrow via Anti- records. The group will celebrate the album’s release with a free in-store show at New Orleans’ Louisiana Music Factory at 2 PM. Fans can also preview the album in its entirety on Relix.com.

The members of Galactic are currently in the midst of a whirlwind series of JazzFest performances. This past Thursday the band performed aboard the Riverboat Creole Queen. Kirk Joseph opened the show with a special band that included Dirty Dozen Brass Band’s Efrem Towns. Numerous guests also joined Galactic’s during its performance, including Towns, Joseph, Chali 2na, Core ‘Boe Money’ Henry and Papa Mali. Galactic’s New Orleans tour continued the next night with a performance at Tipitina’s that stretched until nearly 5:30 AM. In addition to previously announced guest Cyril Neville, Dumpstaphunk members Ivan Neville, Tony Hall and Ian Neville all sat in during the marathon performance (Ivan Neville and his uncle Cyril Neville played an intimate show together at La Petit Sunday night in front of an audience that included Preservation Hall’s Ben Jaffe, Trombone Shorty, Ani Difrance, Ron Johnson, among others). At one point, Galactic drummer Stanton Moore also moved from drums to cymbals as Royal Family/Beyonce drummer Nikki Glaspie moved behind the kit.

Galactic will perform at New Orleans’ Tipitina’s tonight as part of the Instruments a Coming benefit. The mini-festival will also feature Neville, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Trombone Shorty and Orleans Ave, Honey Island Swamp Band, The Cosimo Effect, Renard Poche, Hot 8 Brass Band and Donald Harrison, among others.
