The Nublu days

Keyboardist Didi Gutman, drummer Aaron Johnston, bassist Jesse Murphy and singer Sabina Sciubba formed the Brazilian Girls after a series of jam sessions at New York’s Nublu in the early ‘00s. The quartet crossed over into both the mainstream and jamband worlds and released a pair of critically acclaimed albums in 2005 and 2006. Murphy—who was best known as a member of John Scofield’s Uber Band—left the group before the release of 2008’s New York City and the band went on hiatus later that year when Sciubba left the country to start a family. After a period of inactivity, Gutman, Johnston and Murphy have started making music together and working towards the Brazilian Girls’ return. Each Sunday in May the trio has returned to Nublu as the Brazilian Aliens. The group’s shows have alternated between instrumental a collaborations with guest singers. Brazilian Aliens will return to Nublu this Sunday for another stealth set.
