Last year’s “Instant Karma”

Last night, Phish returned to a familiar shed, Mansfield, MA’s Great Woods, for another round of Northeast dates. Great Woods is considered a hometown amphitheatre for Mike Gordon—who grew up in the greater Boston area—and Phish usually gives the bassist some extra attention at the venue. Yesterday’s show was no different and—partway through the band’s first set—the group busted into a first-time cover of Al Green’s “Rhymes,” a song Gordon first played with his solo band in 2008. The bassist has regularly covered the Al Green selection ever since, including three times on the recent Mike Gordon Band Winter Tour. The show also featured the quartet’s second cover of John Lennon’s “Instant Karma!,” a number Page McConnell first sang with Vida Blue and later brought to Phish in Cuyahoga Falls, OH last June.

Opening with the rarely played “Llama,” Phish also busted out “The Mango Song” and “Pebbles and Marbles” for the first time this year. The group later teased “Meatstick” during both “Run Like an Antelope” and “Suzy Greenberg.”

Phish’s tour continues tonight in Darien Lake, NY. Tickets to the show include free admission to the amusement park located at the venue.
