Terry Adams has reclaimed the NRBQ name for the new album Keep This Love Goin’, which is scheduled for release on July 19. In addition to Adams, the 12-track album will feature Scott Ligon, Terry Adams, Pete Donnelly, and Conrad Choucroun. The eclectic disc will include everything from material inspired by zyedco musician Wilson “Boozoo” Chavis to an adaptation of Tchaikovsky’s “Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat Minor” redone as a country song.

Former NRBQ member Tom Ardolino created the cover art for the album and also plays drums on two of the tracks. When asked about the new NRBQ members Adams commented, “I found musicians who not only understand NRBQ’s past and traditions but who are open to future impossibilities. It’s important that their reason for being musicians in the first place is real.”

The new members of NRBQ are also seasoned musicians. Pete Donnelly on bass and vocals is a member of the Albany rock band The Figgs. Drummer Conrad Choucroun from Austin, Texas has played with prominent artists and bands such as the Damnations, Bob Schneider and Kelly Willis. Scott Ligon covers the group’s vocal and guitar parts.

Until recently, the musicians had toured as The Terry Adams Rock & Roll Quartet. In March 2011, Adams announced the reappearance of the NRBQ name with the release of the new album. “I didn’t want to call the band NRBQ right away,” Adams said in a statement, “Because I didn’t want Scott, Pete, and Conrad subjected to unfair comparisons. It was clear in the spring of 2009 that we had it onstage, but I wanted to wait until we had more road experience and a new studio album with new songs that we wrote and recorded together. You can hear it on “Keep This Love Goin’”. The time is right.”
