Aquarium Rescue Unit will reunite as part of Athens, GA’s Georgia Theatre reopening celebration. The performance will take place on August 8, featuring classic ARU members Col. Bruce Hampton, Jimmy Herring, Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Sipe. Hampton left the seminal jamband in 1993, and the group slowly splintered over the next few years. The band reunited for select shows in 2005 and played a handful of gigs in both 2006 and 2007. According to a statement from the band, “The Aquarium Rescue Unit is reuniting to celebrate the opening of The Georgia Theatre in Athens, GA. The Georgia Theatre has particular importance to ARU as the site of the band’s acclaimed live album and only music video, directed by Billy Bob Thornton.”

Georgia Theatre was destroyed during a fire in 2009. The venue will reopen in August and host appearances by The Glands, Big Boi, Chuck Leavell, RJD2, Béla Fleck & the Flecktones, Drive-By Truckers and many others.
