Widespread’s Weekend Guests

Widespread Panic spent the weekend at the Grand Targhee Resort in Alta, WY. The group performed three nights at the mountain facility, each of which featured guest performers. The run opened on Friday with a show that saw the band in fine form, as Panic opened with an extended sequence that moved from “Ain’t Life Grand” into “ Who Do You Belong To?” and on through “Little Lilly,” “Tall Boy,” “Tickle The Truth” and “Let’s Get Down To Business.” Then, Dirty Dozen Brass Band sax player Kevin Harris stepped out for “Use Me” which segued into “Traveling Man” and “You Should Be Glad.” Harris later returned during the second set for “Ride Me High” which led into “Pilgrims” and then a version of “Chainsaw City” in which fellow DDBB member Efren Towns joined in on trumpet while Panic tour manager Steve Lopez added percussion. Lopez also appeared the next night during the second set’s “Slippin’ Into Darkness” which was part of another portion of the show that saw fluid segues, starting with “From the Cradle” and then on into “Radio Child,” “Slippin’ Into Darkness,” “Disco,” “Second Skin,” “Bears Gone Fishin’” and “I’m Not Alone.” The second night also contained a well received encore that saw “Her Dance Needs No Body” lead into “Maggot Brain” and “Chilly Water.” Finally on Sunday night, Jerry Joseph joined the group, appearing on vocals and guitar during this composition “Light Is Like Water.”
