The High Sierra Music Festival welcomed 10,000 attendees to Quincy, CA this past weekend. My Morning Jacket, Ween, Warren Haynes Band and Neko Case were among the headliners and all delivered strong performances. Ween opened with “Pork Roll Egg and Cheese,” and also moved through such songs as “Monique The Freak” and “Help Me Scrape The Mucus Off My Brain,” while Skerik guested on “Your Party.” My Morning Jacket delivered a lengthy set that saw the group perform 23 songs, with a particular emphasis on the band’s new album, Circuital. The Warren Haynes Band also focused on that group’s debut recording, although it also performed “Beautifully Broken,” “Spanish Castle Magic” and “I’d Rather Go Blind” with Ruthie Foster on vocals. In addition, Ivan Neville who appears on the album but is not a member of the touring band, appeared for “Sick of My Shadow,” “Hattiesburg Hustle” and “Man in Motion.” Many other performers drew in guest players as well, as ALO welcomed Jessica Lurie for “Hot Tub,” Ruthie Foster joined Jordan Feinstein and Audio Angel, the Travelin’ McCourys invited Jeff Austin to appear on “Steam Powered Aeroplane” and Yonder Mountain String Band brought out Andy Falco for a version of the classic Jerry Garcia/Robert Hunter composition, “Althea.”
