A look at Umphrey’s McGee’s Red Rocks show

As we reported earlier this week, Umphrey’s McGee headlined Morrison, CO’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre on July 3. The New Mastersounds and the Easy Star All-Stars opened the show and Curtis Fowlkes and Jennifer Hill (Easy Star All-Stars) added some brass to a cover of Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer.”

On July 4th, Umphrey’s McGee played a second Colorado show at Boulder’s Boulder Theatre. During the performance, several area residents joined Umphrey’s McGee onstage. STS9 bassist David Murphy—who moonlights in a Pink Floyd cover group—sat in at the end of the band’s first set for a take on that band’s “Comfortably Numb” while String Cheese Incident/EOTO’s Michael Travis played percussion on “The Triple Wide” at the start of Umphrey’s second set. Soon after, Big Gigantic saxophonist Dominic Lalli emerged for “Ringo.”

Umphrey’s McGee bassist Ryan Stasik also nodded to Independence Day with a solo bass version of Jaco Pastorius’ rendition of “America the Beautiful.” As first reported by Jambands.com earlier today, Umphrey’s McGee will return to Brooklyn Bowl this fall.
