Saturday evening, Silent Barn—the Ridgewood, Queens DIY music fixture—was severely robbed and vandalized. Facing an estimated $15,000 in damages and a series of new legal challenges, Kickstarter has stepped in, launching a fundraising initiative to not only save the venue, but ensure its continued existence. Kickstarter is working to raise $80,000 in order to fund a new 5-year lease for the space, new sound equipment and renovations to bring the building up to safety standards.

Silent Barn was originally founded by members of Skeletons in 2004, but is now operated by a series of local promoters, radio hosts and artists including G. Lucas Crane from Brooklyn psych rock band Woods. The venue was an early home to bands and artists such as Real Estate, The Black Lips, Deerhunter, The Dirty Projectors and continues to provide a performance space for emerging musicians and artists. Silent Barn is also home to the coveted NYC ‘Showpaper’ which lists local shows at DIY venues across the city and its boroughs.
