Ryan Adams broke up his Grateful Dead-inspired band the Cardinals in 2009 and announced his retirement from live music. The singer/songwriter played a few metal gigs around Los Angeles during his break but didn’t truly resurface until this past October. During a benefit show in California, Adams played an acoustic set with Marshall Vore, Sebastian Steinberg and Jamie Candiloro; his wife Mandy Moore also sat in on “Oh My Sweet Carolina.” Earlier this year, Adams played a surprise opening set for Emmylou Harris and this summer the singer/songwriter toured Europe as a solo acoustic act. His sets mixed new material with some older songs he hadn’t revisited in years.

On October 21, Adams will play his first proper headlining show at Seattle’s Benaroya Hall. The “evening with” performance is part of the CityArts Fest, which will take place throughout Seattle from October 20-22. Other acts scheduled to play the festival include Built to Spill, Robyn, Crustal Castle, Ozomalti, Man Man, The Felice Brothers, That 1 Guy and Mudhoney, among others. Adams is slated to release a new studio record later this year.
