Phish made their debut appearance at Hollywood, CA’s Hollywood Bowl last night. The show was Phish’s first LA appearance since February 14, 2003 and several celebrities were spotted in the crowd, including Entourage star Jeremy Piven and musician Pete Yorn (Piven has actually sat in with Umphrey’s McGee and some Caribbean Holidaze merch. was spotted in the background of an episode of Entourage). Before the show Yorn tweeted, “Going to phish at Hollywood bowl. Old school night. First time seeing them was Waterloo Village, jersey 1994 I think.”

The show’s first set featured a few notable moments, including a tight cover of Frank Zappa’s “Peaches en Regalia”—Zappa played some notable shows at the Hollywood Bowl—as well as a segue from “Wilson” into “Axilla.” For the second time in three shows, Phish also played “Possum,” which has been played more than any song since the band’s return in 2009.

The group’s second set opened with an extended segue that moved from “Carini” into Talking Heads’ “Crosseyed and Painless” “Twist,” “Piper,” “Mike’s Song,” “Joy” and “Weekapaug Groove.” During the end of “Weekapaug,” Trey Anastasio took over on drums while Jon Fishman moved to a small drum kit at the front of the stage for a brief jam. Phish then debut a cover of Paul Simon’s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover,” with Fishman on lead vocals from behind his mini-kit (though the song was not quite a spoof like some of his other covers, Fishman botched the song’s second verse). Without taking a vacuum solo, the song moved into Fishman’s exit music, “Hold Your Head Up,” and, finally, “Weekapaug Groove.”

Phish will kick off a two-night run in Lake Tahoe tonight.
