“Dog Stole” things from 1998

Last night, Phish performed the second of two live webcast concerts at the Outdoor Arena at Harvey’s in Stateline, NV. Phish opened the night by busting out “Dog Stole Things” for the first time since their July 12, 2003 show at George, WA’s The Gorge. But aside from a brief “Stash” jam, the band favored tight, well-played numbers over exploration throughout much of the second.

Another semi-rarity appeared toward the end of the set when the band dusted off John Lennon’s “Instant Karma!” for the second time this summer. The second set saw Phish tunnel through several brief jams that were never fully realized, and shied in comparison to the adventurous playing one night prior. Transcendent jams on both “Down with Disease” and “Runaway Jim” were cut short and aborted for choppy segues that stole from the set’s overall energy. The band closed out the night with the first version of “You Enjoy Myself” of the second leg (the song had not been played since June, 17 in Charlotte, NC) followed by an encore combination of “Show of Life” and Zeppelin’s “Good Times Bad Times.”

Phish will perform at San Francisco’s Outside Lands Festival this Friday.
