Though he spends most of his time working with jazz, rock and jam-inspired sounds, Tea Leaf Green bassist Reed Mathis has a background in classical music. On September 17, Mathis will perform Beethoven’s 3rd and 6th symphonies as part of the 2011 Beethoven Festival at the Chicago Urban Art Society. For this show, Mathis’ band will feature Eric Deutsch (keyboards), Jason Smart (drums) and David Odell (guitar). Mathis’ former band Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey recorded Beethoven’s 3rd and 6th symphonies in 2009.
