POPS Ball Honors The Radiators, The Allmans and More

New York’s Hiro Ballroom hosted the first annual Pops Ball this past Thursday. A companion to the private M.O.M.s Ball masquerade party, The Radiators regularly played in New Orleans each Mardi Gras, the show featured the first time pairing of New Orleans guitarist Anders Osborne, Radiators guitarist Dave Malone, trombonist Big Sam, Papa Gros Funk keyboardist John Gros, trumpeter Maurice Brown, former Bonerama drummer Eric Boliva and DJ Logic. The musicians covered a range of material throughout the night, including Little Feat’s “Spanish Moon,” Osborne’s “Stoned Drunk and Naked” and The Radiators” and “Papaya.” Guitarist Jamie McLean also emerged at the end of the ball to lead the ensemble through The Allman Brothers Band’s “Midnight Rider.” Rising New York group Outer Borough Brass Band opened the night.
