During the Allman Brothers Band’s Beacon Theater residency this past March, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks and several other artists played Duane Allman’s 1957 Les Paul Goldtop onstage. Allman used the classic guitar for several recording sessions, most notable for Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. Last week, guitarist Nels Cline had a chance to play Allman’s 1957 Les Paul Goldtop as well during Wilco’s Southeast run. Cline borrowed the guitar from Macon, GA’s Allman Brothers Band for shows at Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Centre last Wednesday and Thursday. He then brought the guitar to Nashville, TN for Wilco’s shows at the Ryman this past weekend. Not only was Allman based in Georgia for several years but he was born in Nashville.

During Wilco’s Nashville performances, opening act Nick Lowe also sat in with the group on “36 Inches” and “I Love My Label.” Wilco will perform at St. Louis, MO’s Peabody Opera House tonight.
