On Tuesday night, The Barr Brothers celebrated the release of their self-titled debut album at Montreal’s Cabaret La Tulipe. Though The Slip offshoot independently released the album last year, The Barr Brothers was recently picked up by Secret City records and is poised to reach a far wider audience. Partway through the Barrs’ set, Plants and Animals guitarist Nicolas Basque emerged to play on “Ooh, Belle.” He later returned with fellow Plants and Animals guitarist Warren Spicer for “England” at the end of the set (Brad Barr lived in the same building as the Plants and Animals crew when he moved to Montreal). During the group’s encore, the member of the Low Anthem also emerged for “Let Me Let It Go” and a show-closing “Don’t Let It Bring You Down” that featured all of the evening’s guests. In addition, drummer Andrew Barr took a rare stab at guitar on the new song “Keeping An Eye On You.” The Barr Brothers will perform at New York’s Apple Store this evening.
