Austin, Texas blues musician Doyle Bramhall passed away this weekend at the age of 62. Bramhall, a highly regarded drummer, singer and songwriter, first rose onto the scene alongside Jimmie Vaughan in a band called The Chessmen. Years later, he formed The Nightcrawlers, featuring the younger Vaughan brother, Stevie Ray, on guitar. He and SRV would go on to collaborate, influencing the guitarist’s vocal style and helping to pen tunes including “Dirty Pool” and “Life By The Drop.” Bramhall released three albums under his own name, most recently 2007’s Is It News. His son Doyle Bramhall II is also a renowned blues musician who has remained a fixture as the second guitarist on Eric Clapton’s recent tours.
