Today marks Hubert Sumlin’s 80th birthday. The guitarist who appeared in Howlin’ Wolf’s group from 1955 through Wolf’s death in 1976, led a number of his own projects during that time period and subsequent to it. In 2006 Sumlin joined Little Feat at the Jammy Awards (here’s a look at his back stage rehearsal with the group). The guitarist, who appeared in the Rolling Stone “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” (at #65), will take the stage tonight at Mexicali Live in Teaneck, NJ to mark the special occasion.
