As previously announced on their Facebook page, moe. performed without a setlist last night at Winston-Salem, NC’s Ziggy’s. The Buffalo-bred band used hand signals to stay on the same page and worked from a list of 27 songs (which can be seen above).

The group’s new approach seemed to work and yielded several notable segues. moe. opened the night with a version of “32 Things” that wrapped around “Buster.” Near the end of their set, the members of the band segued into “Sticks and Stones” in the middle of “Waiting For The Punchline.” The band’s second set also included interesting transitions from “Captain America” into “Rise”, “She Sends Me” into “New York City,” “Brent Black” into “Water” and “Bullet” and “Zed Naught Z” into the end portion of “Brent Black.” Guitarist Al Schnier also busted out his “Backwoods” for the first time since January 10, 2007.

moe. typically works from a setlist and has even gone so far as to compose music to use as transitions between songs (though the band admitted that they got “hosed” for that technique by fans in a Relix interview last year).

In other news, moe. has decided to put its winter festival Snoe.down on ice this year. As the band explains, “Snoe.down, the band’s winter music and sports festival, will be taking a hiatus in 2012 due to moe.‘s upcoming touring schedule (which includes a winter European run) and the upcoming release of their new CD. The multi-stage festival, which features 3 days of music and outdoor activities, has been hosted the past two seasons by Killington Resort, the Town of Killington and Spartan Arena in Rutland Vermont. moe. and producer Great Northeast Productions express their sincere thanks to all, especially to the fans who have supported the festival, and look forward to its return in 2013.”
