Dawes and Blitzen Trapper perform together on Tuesday in San Francisco

Dawes and Blitzen Trapper closed their co-headlining fall tour last night at Los Angeles’ Music Box. During their set, Dawes invited some notable guests to the stage, including Big Star drummer—and lone remaining founding member—Jody Stephens, who sat in for a cover of his band’s “The Ballad of El Goodo.” Members of Blitzen Trapper also took the stage for the cover to help with vocals. Later in the night, during their encore, Dawes also invited out Ton Petty & the Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench to play on two songs he recorded on the band’s latest album, “Time Spent In Los Angeles” and
“Fire Away.”

Dawes’ next show is a December 6 appearance at Levon Helm’s Woodstock, NY Midnight Ramble. The group has also recently confirmed a headlining spot at KGSR’s 21st Anniversary concert at ACL Live at The Moody Theater on December 9. The lineup also features The Gourds, Givers and Mat Kearney.
