Blair Jackson Revisits the Grateful Dead’s Brent Mydland Years

Back in 2005, Blair Jackson, author of Garcia: An American Life and former editor of Grateful Dead fanzine Golden Road, wrote an essay for Relix that explored the Grateful Dead during the Brent Mydland years (1979-1990). That piece has just appeared online for the first time over on Relix.com. It follows other recent articles from the August 2005 issue of Relix, including one on Jerry Garcia, an exploration of Bob Weir’s songs in his own words and an essay by Owsley “Bear” Stanley on the group’s travel to Los Angeles in 1966.

I checked out this article as I thought this was going to be a NEWLY-written piece on Brent…then I came to find out it is a 6 year old reprint. Which is fine, but the headline is misleading. It should read something like “Jambands.com Revisits Blair Jackson’s Revisit of the Brent Mydland Years”...or some such variation. Come on guys, you got my hopes up that this fine writer was doing a new piece on a guy not often written about (sadly).
