Two Evenings with Mike Cooley from the Drive-By Truckers

Patterson Hood often overshadows Mike Cooley in Drive-By Truckers, but the singer/guitarist wrote some of the Truckers most memorable songs. On December 20 and 21, Cooley will take the spotlight for some shows at Birmingham, AL’s WorkPlay Theatre.A portion of sales from the shows will go to Laura Crandall Brown Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. The Drive-By Truckers will kick off a three-night New Year’s Eve at Washington, DC’s 9:30 on December 29. For more on the Truckers, please read the next part of our family portrait.

correction: Patterson Hood often “TRIES” to overshadow Mike Cooley, but the singer/guitarists wrote ALL of their memorable songs

Patterson is good but can’t fuck with Cooley. But I say the loss of either would be the demise of the truckers as we know it. I even think that tucker leaving the band is gonna impact the scene more than most everyone is expecting….but yes for sure Cooley is the man and IMHO the best singer/songwriter that has ever stepped foot in the southern states. So for anyone who hasn’t had the chance to be in his presence, needs to!!
