The Flaming Lips have confirmed a series of New Year’s shows. The band’s New Year’s Freakout 5 will take place at Oklahoma City’s Bricktown Events Center on December 31 and January 1, 2012. The band promises, “more confetti, more balloons, massive volume, and maximum weirdness.” Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band featuring Wilco’s Nels Cline will open the shows and Neon Indian will also support on New Year’s Day. A tweet from The Flaming Lips also promises a midnight cover of John Lennon’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” featuring members of the Plastic Ono Band. All ticketholders are also invited to an after show at the Lips’ art space featuring Stardeath and White Dwarfs. As some readers may recall, Wilco and The Flaming Lips shared the stage on New Year’s Eve at New York’s Madison Square Garden on December 31, 2004.

Tickets go on sale today, Friday November 25, and are priced at $100 per night or available at a special package price of $150 for both nights. The Lips also have a holiday performance scheduled at Aspen, CO’s The Belly Up on December 27. These shows will celebrate the release of The Flaming Lips’ 24-hour song.
