Chick Corea Looks Back on Last Year’s Blue Note Shows
Last night, legendary fusion pianist Chick Corea wrapped-up a marathon run at New York’s Blue Note. The shows—which celebrated Corea’s 70th birthday as well as his 50th year in the jazz world—saw Corea play with everyone from Herbie Hancock, Bobby McFerrin and Gary Burton to his Original Elektric Band, a Miles Davis tribe and, of course, Return to Forever Unplugged.
Now, Corea will look back on a series of Bill Evans tribute shows he performed at the Blue Note from May 4-17, 2010. Produced by Corea, Further Explorations finds Corea playing with original Evans alumni bassist Eddie Gomez and the late drummer Paul Motian on a set of Evans standards. According to Corea’s camp, “Rather than approach the music as a tribute, his material provided more of a template. The results are inspired.” The two-disc set is slated for release on January 17, 2012 via Concord Jazz.
