Back in February 1993, David Grisman invited Jerry Garcia to join himself and Tony Rice in the studio. The trio performed together over two days on February 4 and February 5. As the story has it, Garcia’s recording were stolen soon afterwards by a pizza delivery boy and eventually leaked out to the public via a series of bootlegs. In 2000 Grisman released portions of the sessions as The Pizza Tapes. Now Grisman is offering an “Extra Large” 170 minute version of The Pizza Tapes through Acoustic Oasis, Grisman’s new download-based label. The Pizza Tapes – Extra Large Edition offers 16 previously unissued alternate takes along with the original master takes in their original sequence.
