Longtime Seattle jamband Flowmotion will change their name to The True Spokes this January. Along with a name change, the band will release a new studio album on February 3. This album is being co-produced by The True Spokes and The Mother Hips’ Tim Bluhm, and features performances by both Tim & Nicki Bluhm (Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers). The True Spokes ’ first song “Back Porch” is now available online.

A message from the band reads, “The music the band is writing and recording has reached a point where the name Flowmotion is an unsuitable description for who the band is now. With a solidified line up and many members writing material, transitioning to a new band name allows us to evolve into whatever it is we want to become. Sometimes an artistic desire and inspiration churns so hard in our guts we don’t have a choice but to follow it, regardless of the financial or social ramifications. We’re extremely excited for the new album and consider it to be one of our proudest achievements.”

Flowmotion’s New Year’s Eve show at Nectar Lounge will be their final Seattle show under their current name. The group also play a series of gigs in Girdwood, Alaska. Their CD release parties at Portland, OR’s Doug Fir (2/3) and Seattle, WA’s Showbox Market will be their first as The True Spokes. The Mothers Hips will perform on both bills.
