Los Angeles’ Dawes have performed with a number of legendary musicians this year, including Jackson Browne, Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm and Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench. Last night at Hoboken, NJ’s Maxwell’s, however, the rising roots act performed with a younger Americana songwriter.

Near the end of Dawes’ set, former Felice Brothers member—and Duke & the King founder—Simone Felice emerged for a surprise appearance. Felice led the members of Dawes through his own “Radio Song” and, in reference to the band’s sing-along “When My Time Comes,” exclaimed, “their time has come.” Dawes gave fans an extra few songs at the end of their set and pushed through their songlist without leaving for an encore. The group will return to Maxwell’s tonight.
