Jeff Mattson and Rob Barraco: Jamming Outside the Box

Guitarist Jeff Mattson and keyboardist Rob Barraco spent years playing together in the Zen Tricksters and are currently part of Dark Star Orchestra (they both also were part of an early Phil Lesh & Friends lineup). On January 12, Mattson and Barraco will take the stage in a different configuration at Hauppauge, NY’s Madison Steak House. The longtime friends will play a rare acoustic duo show while Dark Star is off the road. The musicians promise jamming outside the box with no script or planned set list. Mattson and Barraco will play two 90-minute sets beginning at 8:30 PM. As previous reported, Barraco will also sit in with Zen Tricksters at Brooklyn, NY’s Brooklyn Bowl as part of the annual Dave Nolan benefit show.

Sep29 Andrew, that’s irrational. You slhoud bring that to prayer.Toph, that’s interesting. I don’t think that a fear of submitting to God or surrendering to His will is what Solomon (and all those other wise guys) are talking about when it comes to fear of the Lord. I think you’re on the right track when you talk about fear of the Lord being that awe before God, the kind of fear that doesn’t allow you to become too comfortable in your relationship with Him. (Think Chronicles of Narnia: Aslan is not tame, but he is GOOD.) I think when we get wrapped up in our own plans and become very comfortable in our lives, surrendering all of that to God is frightening because we don’t know what our powerful (but good) God will do with that. If we surrender, God might shake things up, He might take away the things we love. That’s scary, but I think if that fear is something really stopping you from moving forward in your relationship with God then Satan probably has something to do with that and you slhoud figure out how to convince him to piss off so that you and God can move on :) (because when you let God steer, things usually go much better than we could plan)

This is going to be one hell of a show! Two powerhouse musicians like Jeff and Rob playing off each other—and at a local place in Long Island! The music gods are smiling on me!
