Rising soul-rock group Alabama Shakes will play a free, stealth show at New York’s Lakeside Lounge at 7 PM tonight. Without an album or traditional internet buzz, the band drew several hundred fans to Bowery Ballroom for their New York debut during CMJ in October. The group’s New York shows at Brooklyn Bowl and Mercury Lounge both sold out in advance earlier this week, and the Shakes are poised to make a big impact on this summer’s festival circuit.

Alabama Shakes will close the year at Washington, DC’s 9:30 Club with Drive-By Truckers. Truckers frontman Patterson Hood is credited with discovering the young group. For more on his discovery, be sure to read his year end reflections on the site.
