New Orleans’ Soul Rebels Brass Band surprised many fans by opening for Metallica during their 30th anniversary run at San Francisco’s The Fillmore last week. The brass band opened each night with a set of reworked Metallica hits. The Soul Rebels also sat in with Metallica for a jam based around “Seek & Destroy” during their set. Members of the two groups recently met while filming an episode of the BBC variety show Later…with Jools Holland .

“Opening for Metallica is certainly one of, if not the crowning achievement of my career thus far,” said Erion Williams, sax player for Soul Rebels, said in a statement.

The Soul Rebels will release Unlock Your Mind in January. The album features appearances by Cyril Neville, Trombone Shorty, Meters’ guitarist Leo Nocentelli and Galactic’s Ben Ellman.
