End of the Year Improv (Plus the Marc Ribot/David Hidalgo Duo)
New York art space The Stone has confirmed its end of the year shows. On December 29, jazz guitarist Marc Ribot and Los Lobos’ David Hidalgo will play a special duo show. Then on December 30, the club will host two benefit performances as part of its annual End of the Year Improv Party. The 8 and 10 PM shows will bring together John Zorn (sax), Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore (guitar), Matt Wilson (drums), Jeremiah Cymerman (clarinet), Sylvie Courvoisier (piano), Sam Kulik (trombone), Tim Keiper (drums), Dave Taylor (trombone), Ned Rothenberg (sax), Roberto Rodriguez (percussion), Eyal Maoz (guitar), David Fulmer (violin), Chris Cochraane (guitar) and many special guests.
The End of the Year Improv Party will continue at 8 PM on December 31 with another jam session bringing together John Zorn (sax), George Lewis (trombone), Jeremiah Cymerman (clarinet), Sam Kulik (trombone), Ned Rothenberg (sax), Eyal Maoz (guitar), David Fulmer (violin), Thurston Moore (guitar) and many others. Then at 11 PM, Ribot will lead a band featuring Roy Campbell Jr (trumpet), Henry Grimes (bass) and Chad Taylor (drums) as part of the Bells at Midnight spiritual unity jam. The club explains, “they perform a free ritual/jam that will lead through a midnight rendition of Albert Ayler’s masterpiece. Champagne toast included. Meanwhile, Los Lobos will close the year nearby at City Winery.
