GIVERS and Tao Seeger Join Preservation Hall Jazz Band in New Orleans

Photos by Dino Perrucci

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band will celebrate their 50th anniversary with a big show at New York’s Carnegie Hall on January 7. The all-star gig will feature a diverse mix of bands with ties to the noted New Orleans group, including Mos Def, My Morning Jacket, Del McCoury Band, Trombone Shorty, Allen Toussaint, Blind Boys of Alabama, Tao Seeger and GIVERS, among many others.

Last night, the veteran ensemble hosted something of a public rehearsal for the Carnegie Hall gig at New Orleans’ Preservation Hall. During Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s set, the New Orleans-based indie group GIVERS emerged to play a few songs. Tao Seeger also took the stage for a short performance. Despite their world-infused indie rocks, the members of GIVERS actually have roots in New Orleans’ local music scenes.

Preservation Hall will host The Preservation Hall Jazz Masters featuring Leroy Jones this evening. The club will then present A Creole Christmas featuring Lars Edegran & Big Al Carson at both 2 and 4 PM tomorrow.
