Last year, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James embarked on a short tour with Ben Sollee and Daniel Martin Moore to “raise public awareness of the devastating practice of Mountaintop Removal coal mining throughout Appalachia.” Later this week, the three musicians will come together once again to raise money and awareness for Kentuckians For The Commonwealth. A 30-year-old statewide nonprofit, KFTC is a community of people taking action for justice. As the organization explains, “We work with people to organize in their home communities and across the state. We help everyday community members become extraordinary community leaders. Together, we win important issue campaigns. KFTC is unique in that our power comes from our membership, the faces you see in your community every day.”

The benefit will take place at Louisville, KY’s Brown Theatre on December 29. Kentucky Authors, Silas House and Jason Howard will open the night.
