The Biscuits kick off the run on Monday

The Disco Biscuits closed their three-night run at New York’s Best Buy Theatre early this morning. In a move that recalled the band’s first New Year’s run at Wetlands on December 29 and 30, 1998, the performance kicked off a 12:30 AM this morning after Phish headlined New York’s Madison Square Garden and stretched until 4 AM. Though the Biscuits played post-Phish shows in their club days, they had not played a post-Phish gig in a number of years (their scheduled post-Phish shows in 2003 were cancelled after guitarist Jon Gutwillig broke his arm).

Nodding to the night’s retro feel, the Disco Biscuits peppered their setlist with a number of old school favorites like “The Very Moon,” “Mulberry’s Dream,” “M.E.M.P.H.I.S,” “And The Ladies Were The Rest Of The Night,” “Above The Waves” and “House Dog Party Favor.” The band also busted into “My Lady Survives” for the first time since October 31, 1998 at the end of their first set. The classic Biscuit song was reworked as part of “Haleakala Crater” and subsequently dropped from the band’s rotation in the late ‘90s.

The Disco Biscuits’ New Year’s Run will continue at Chicago’s Auditorium Theater tomorrow.

Here’s a look at last night’s setlist as it appears in our Box Scores section.
