The opener

Yonder Mountain String Band continued its New Year Eve run last night at the Boulder Theatre. Since Futureman had appeared for one song at the close of the prior night, it was expected that he would join Yonder for this performance. This didn’t happen right away however, as the band initially took the stage in its classic formation as a quartet and remained that way for much of the first set, which began with “Polka On A Banjo” and also included “Ripcord Blues,” “Another Day” and “Casualty.” Then Futureman joined in for the close, starting with “One More” and also including “Corona,” Yonder’s debut of “Used To It” and “Up On The Hill Where They Do The Boogie.” The Flecktone later returned at the end of the second set for “Criminal,” “Sideshow Blues,” “Pockets,” “Fingerprint” and “Shake Me Up.” All five contributed to the encore which began with a cover of the Beatles’ “Come Together,” and then presented the Allman Brothers Band’s “Whipping Post.”

Yonder is back at the venue tonight, quite likely with Darol Anger.
