Last evening, Furthur rang in the New Year at San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium with a show that is quickly receiving rave reviews from all corners of the community. The celebratory vibe began with “Golden Road,” which kicked off the first of three eye-catching sets (see below for the full setlist). To mark the New Year, a smoking dragon’s head (with red LED lights and a hazer machine inside the dragon’s mouth) descended from the top of the venue at the start of the third set. The spectacle was met by the Stones’ “Start Me Up” playing over the PA before the official countdown ensued. According to the Furthur camp, the dragon was built from all recycled cardboard and aluminum. As the year turned, the group reappeared on stage to kick off the final set with “Sugar Magnolia.” To cap off the special evening, Furthur performed the entire “Terrapin Suite” as the encore. The performance was broadcast live on Sirius Radio.
