STS9 brought the year to a close at Atlanta, GA’s Tabernacle last night. The show was a culmination of a five-night run at in Georgia-bred group’s old hometown (The group has now played the Tabernacle over 25 times). On December 28, STS9 offered up most of their cherished 2005 release Artifact and last night the group nodded to that album once again by opening with the album’s title track. Never ones to be stuck in the past, the band then busted into a brand new original.

The quintet’s New Year’s Eve countdown took place at the start of their second set. As the clock struck midnight, the group welcomed 2012 with the traditional “Auld Lang Syne.” Fittingly, the song then bled into the new STS9 number “20-12,” a live favorite throughout 2011. The band also presented their reworked version of “Scheme.” STS9 ended their night with a rare double encore consisting of “Shock Doctrine” and “The Spectacle.”

STS9 will host the first of their 2102 “The Great Cycle Spectacles” events in Denver, CO on January 13 and 14.
