A feature length documentary on Jerry Garcia is now being prepped for a spring 2012 release. Malcolm Leo will direct the film, which will draw on a three hour interview Leo conducted with Garcia in 1987. Leo’s earlier works include This Is Elvis, The Beach Boys – An American Band, Crosby, Stills & Nash: Long Time Comin’ and Rolling Stone Presents Twenty Years of Rock & Roll. The filmmakers indicate that they have secured the rights to make the film, which “will blend an unprecedented amount of never before seen [sic] performances, documentary footage and rare home movies.” Last summer Leo and partner John Hartmann presented a clip aired by the San Francisco Giants for Jerry Garcia Day.
